Map of Understanding
Initially I started my research with quotes from my essay that I felt had potential for expansion or just seemed to make some kind of true insight into what I was researching. From these I branched out into what possible subjects//areas I could research further, and found very quickly that the possible avenues to explore from my essay were bountiful; things escalated and my end map covered a huge spectrum of ideas.
The more research I did into each of these ideas the more ideas I got and the further the map expanded. I found myself to be much more interested in the debate of the duel role in women's sexuality; whether the way they were exposed and represented was empowering or deeming, rather than the 1950s illustration theme on it's own.
I began researching into people's opinions and views on the various ways women's sexuality was and is being currently explored and expressed. I read a lot of articles on burlesque in particular as there seemed to be many opinions on both the positives and negatives of it, and how it had changed from it's initially rather political roots into a purely derogatory art of titillation.
All of this reading and research did however over complicate things for me slightly. At this point I felt a little overwhelmed with information and opinion but felt I had no real direction for my diagram.
Books I dipped into during my research
